Ohio Sports Betting

Ohio Sports Betting Betting Info And The Best LA Sportsbooks

On January 1, 2023, at 12:01 A.M., both retail and internet sportsbooks in Ohio will begin accepting bets. After establishing the timeframe in August, the Ohio Casino Control Commission has been moving quickly ever since.

The majority of the largest sportsbook businesses have obtained market access or will do so soon. On launch day, new users can take advantage of early sign-up bonuses from the likes of bet365, FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM, and Caesars.

Sports organisations, racinos, and casinos are given preference for online sports betting licences under the Ohio sports betting law. Each will be granted a single licence, with the potential for an additional one if the applicant can show that it will benefit Ohio financially. The law also mandates that grocery stores, pubs, and restaurants modify their lottery kiosks to accommodate small-scale sports betting. Here is what we know so far regarding Ohio’s plans to introduce online sports betting on January 1st 2023.

Is sports betting legal in Ohio?

Although sports betting is legal in Ohio, there are currently no sportsbooks operating there. Gov. Mike DeWine signed HB 29, an Ohio sports betting bill, on December 22, 2021 after it had been approved by both chambers of the Ohio Legislature. In January 2023, the market will open.

When will Ohio begin to accept sports wagers?

Ohio sports betting will be live at 12:01 a.m. on January 1, 2023, a date that applies to both online and retail betting. The OCCC announced the date in June, and in August, they decided when the launch would take place. In fact, HB 29 says that the Ohio Casino Control Commission has until that day to start letting people legally bet on sports in the state.

Sportsbook apps for Ohio

In Ohio, there may initially be up to 25 internet sportsbooks. If the casinos and sports teams having such licences can show the OCCC that the second skin will benefit Ohio incrementally, they may apply for one. If any site intended to go live on January 1, applications were due on July 15. If you send in an application after that time, you can’t be sure that it will launch on the same schedule.

Many businesses have already submitted applications, and most of the major figures in the sports betting sector are on board. Here is a rundown of the relationships and application status for upcoming Ohio sports betting apps:

FanDuel Ohio

The Buckeye State is familiar with FanDuel thanks to their DFS activities. It now aims to make its Ohio debut as an online and retail operator. FanDuel applied for a mobile provider licence, but the company hasn’t officially disclosed a collaboration with Ohio. The company’s long-standing relationship with Boyd Gaming, the operator of Belterra Park, is probably what will get them entrance into the Ohio market.

BetMGM Ohio

The sportsbook app for MGM Resorts, one of the biggest gaming organisations in the world, is called BetMGM Sportsbook. Ohio is already home to MGM thanks to its ownership of the MGM Northfield Park. In June 2022, BetMGM requested an online and retail licence from the Ohio Casino Control Commission.

DraftKings Ohio

Ohio has already benefited from DraftKings’ daily fantasy sports services for a number of years. Sports betting will soon be legalised in the state of Ohio. The state just approved DraftKings’ application for a mobile licence.

PointsBet Ohio

In recent years, PointsBet Sportsbook, an Australian company that lets people bet on sports, has become more popular in the US. Penn National Gaming, which owns a number of casinos in Ohio, has an access deal with PointsBet. The Ohio Casino Control Commission has received an application from PointsBet to be authorised as a provider of mobile management services.

Caesars Ohio

The identically named hotel and casino company is represented by Caesars Sportsbook. The enormous portfolio of the business includes Eldorado Gaming Scioto Downs in Ohio. Additionally, Caesars and the NBA’s Cleveland Cavaliers have a retail partnership in place. In Ohio, Caesars recently unveiled a horse betting app. Caesars submitted a retail or mobile licence application before the deadline of July 15.

Barstool  Ohio

The sportsbook app used by casino operator Penn National Gaming is called Barstool Sports. The Hollywood Casino brand, which has four sites in Ohio, is owned by Penn National. Since June 2022, Penn National has submitted a licence application to the OCCC for mobile sports betting. Penn National can collaborate with up to three additional online sportsbooks in addition to Barstool because it owns four casinos/racinos in the state.

How to register at a sportsbook in Ohio

No matter which sportsbook software you choose in Ohio, the setup process will be almost exactly the same and short. In actuality, the procedures for signing up are the same everywhere. What you should do is:
Install the app on your smartphone after downloading it.

  • Create a user account.
  • Fund your account with money.
  • Place your initial bet.

Definitions of bonuses and promotions

After Ohio legalizes online sports betting, bettors will probably learn that they can benefit from incentives and promotions right now. Even though the offers may vary, they usually fall into one of the following categories, so it’s important to understand how to spot them and what they mean for you.

No deposit: A no deposit bonus, sometimes called a welcome bonus, is often given to new players as a reward for signing up. They entail adding site credits to players’ accounts so they can try out the app.

Deposit: With deposit bonuses, the app adds additional funds to match a percentage of your deposit. The maximum amount of bonus dollars you can earn and the matching percentage differ.

No-risk wagers: A risk-free bet offer resembles insurance in many ways. You make a bet, and if you win, you take your customary winnings. If you lose, the app will give you site credits or a voucher in exchange for the wager’s value. To get your money back, you must still re-bet the credits a predetermined number of times.

Rewards or loyalty programs: You receive points for every dollar wagered on the app through rewards or loyalty programmes. Depending on the program, these points may have one or two purposes. Your point total will put you on a reward system. Additionally, you might be able to use your points to buy branded merchandise and bonus bets from specialty shops that don’t accept cash payments.

Odds boosts: These entail manually increasing certain bet payouts over what their odds would indicate. The purpose of the boosts is to get more people interested in certain bets and to increase the possible reward.

As was already said, some of these promotions give you site credits or bet coupons that you have to use before you can get your money. The term “playthrough” or “wagering requirement” refers to this requirement. It is a multiplier for the amount of bonus money you receive. Before you accept a bonus offer, be careful to understand the bonus offer’s terms and conditions.

Ohio’s laws on sports betting

Since HB 29 was passed, sports betting is permitted in Ohio.

The law’s wording makes it possible for dozens of sportsbooks to open their doors in Ohio. Companies may apply for a variety of sports betting licences, and Ohioans may soon see new legal choices appear nearby, wherever they may be. The format for the licences that businesses can pursue is as follows:

Sort A – This type of licence has 25 slots available reserved for businesses based in Ohio and these holding Type B licenses. Although the qualifying clause of a licence is ambiguous, it is known that the state’s casinos and significant professional sports leagues are the intended licensees. Type A licences only allow for one online skin, but if a state’s casinos or eligible sports organisations can show a financial necessity for another, they may submit an application.
Type B – Type B licences are only granted to sportsbooks with physical locations in Ohio. The OCCC may grant any one of 40 licences. The population of the county where the licence would be located influences how many licences can be awarded.
Type C — Type C licences are only available to holders of Class D liquor licences. In other words, sports betting kiosks may soon be present in pubs, restaurants, and other public spaces that provide alcohol. Any business that offers Ohio Lottery tickets for sale is eligible.
