RBC Canadian Open Betting Picks

RBC Canadian Open Predictions

The PGA Tour is heading to Canada this week as the RBC Canadian Open will take place. This is the last golf tournament of the PGA Tour before the Major, and this is something we need to take into account when making predictions. Below you will find my preview for the St George Gold & Country Club Course event and two picks for this tournament.

Key Stat: Tony Finau has made all four Canadian Open cuts, with a fifth-place at Glen Abbey on his penultimate appearance

Tip Reasoning

  • Finau finished second at the Mexico Open and ranked 1st for Strokes Gained: Tee To Green
  • He finished in fourth-place at the Charles Schwab Challenge last time out
  • Finau seems to have found form after a disappointing first few months of the year

The St George & Country Club Course is a tree-lined with elevated bentgrass greens. As mentioned above, this tournament is coming just before the Major, so it is not surprising to see that they have tried to make it a useful warm-up for players, with the rough that is ticker than what you would typically find on the average PGA Tour track.

Our first pick for the RBC Canadian Open is Tony Finau, who seems to have found form after a disappointing first few months of the year. He finished second at the Mexico Open and ranked 1st for Strokes Gained: Tee To Green. He followed that up with a fourth-place at the Charles Schwab Challenge last time out.

Considering that the Colonial Country Club correlates well with this week’s course, we believe there is good value in backing Tony Finau to go all the way. He has also done well outside of the US, with his first win that was in Puerto Rico, in addition to having made all four Canadian Open cuts, with a fifth-place at Glen Abbey on his penultimate appearance at this tournament back in 2017.

Tip Reasoning

Key Stat: Todd is a very accurate player ranking 5 DA

  • Tood two wins came in 2019, in layouts similar to this week’s course, Bermuda Championship and Mayakoba
  • Tied 3rd at the Charles Schwab Challenge two weeks ago
  • He is ranking 22nd in Par 3 Scoring and 12th in Scrambling this term

Our second option for this tournament is Brendon Todd. He is a very accurate player that can do well in these circumstances, as he is ranking 5th in DA. His two wins came in 2019, in layouts similar to this week’s course, Bermuda Championship and Mayakoba. Another interesting thing to note is that these two events came close to each other, which signals that he tends to deliver for several weeks when he gets into form. He is coming to Canada on the back of a third-place at the Charles Schwab Challenge two weeks ago, having recorded an eighth place in the Texas Open at the start of April. He is also ranking 22nd in Par 3 Scoring and 12th in Scrambling this term. Todd has what it takes to be in contention this week, and it looks like a very intriguing option at this great price.
