This next game we’re taking a look at for week three is getting a ton of buzz because of the young quarterback matchup. The Jacksonville Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence will go across the country to take on the Los Angeles Chargers and Justin Herbert in an AFC clash. Both teams come into this game 1-1 on the season, and for the Jaguars that’s a huge improvement, as they are looking for signs their second-year franchise QB is catching on to the NFL game.

For the Chargers, they have high expectations to not only make the playoffs out of the impossibly tough AFC West, but to win the division and compete for an AFC Championship spot. If L.A. wants to accomplish this, their third-year quarterback, Justin Herbert, needs to take the final step to show he is an elite championship-level quarterback.

The L.A. Chargers defense will also need to improve from last year, and after they added Khalil Mack to team up with Joey Bosa. Mack already has 3 1/2 sacks on the season to lead the AFC, so that free agent pickup is already paying off. Herbert’s status is still a question mark after he took a hard hit to the ribs last week, but we are anticipating he will play. We like the Chargers to win and cover the -7 point spread.

Tip Reasoning

Key Stat: Injured Chargers Allen and Herbert are questionable for Sunday

  • Wide receiver Allen is questionable against the Jaguars
  • Chargers QB Justin Herbert injured his ribs last week
  • Chargers are averaging 306 yards passing per game

The second bet for the Jaguars-Chargers game is the Over/Under of 47 points. The outcome of this bet will largely depend on who is playing quarterback for the Chargers on Sunday. If Herbert is healthy enough to play and at close to 100%, then this game has a good chance to hit the over. However, if Herbert can’t play or is too injured to be effective, the Under 47 points will be the popular pick. While both defenses have played well to start the season, we like each offense to show a little more in week three. We think Herbert will be available to play and he and Lawrence will show why their young QB’s with so much promise. We will take Over 47 points on Sunday.
