The Los Angeles Dodgers are wrapping up the last two weeks of the regular season as the best team in baseball. Not only has L.A. had the best record in the N.L. through most of the season, they also have wrapped up the NL West Division title more than two weeks before the playoffs.

Los Angeles will have Andrew Heaney starting against the Giants on Sunday night. Heaney is 3-2 with a 2.84 ERA on the season for the Dodgers. The Giants will have arguably their best pitcher on the mound in Alex Cobb, who is 6-6 with a 3.48 ERA this year. Cobb has been a consistent pitcher, but if the Giants want to salvage a game in this weekend series against their rivals, he will have to shut down a dangerous Dodgers lineup.

The Dodgers are hitting .260 as a team on the year and have shown the ability to score runs in bunches against almost any pitcher in the league. L.A. has simply dominated this rivalry this year with a 14-4 record and we don’t see the Giants pulling out a win for their last game against the Dodgers. We will take Los Angeles to win and cover the -1.5 run spread.

Tip Reasoning

Key Stat: Los Angeles has a league-best 2.81 team ERA

  • Giants are only hitting .230 as a team this season
  • Heaney has a 1.07 WHIP for L.A.
  • Cobb is averaging more than a strikeout an inning this season

Our second bet for the Dodgers-Giants game will look at the Over/Under. The line is fairly low at 7.5 runs for the Over/Under, which is not surprising with the Giants lack of offensive power in their lineup and Alex Cobb pitching against the Dodgers, it really sets up for a low-scoring game. The Dodgers bullpen is just as good, if not better than most of their starters, so Heaney may not be one of their best pitchers, but he is still above average and can hand the game over to an excellent bullpen. We agree with the odds, as we are taking the Under 7.5 runs in this game, predicting a 5-2 Dodgers win.
