Is Novak Djokovic a lock to secure his tenth championship at Melbourne Park? I don’t think so. The Serb, who was expelled and deported just a year ago, will be keen to make an impressive return, which surely will make him even more motivated. If you are planning to put your house on him, though, just remember that he is playing with a harmonium problem and that this issue stopped his practice session in Melbourne. Djokovic has the experience to deal with similar issues, but there are too many unknowns to take such a small risk. Djokovic, who won the ATP Finals, was defeated in the Paris Masters just a few weeks ago, and the draw hasn’t been kind to him in this tournament. Clearly, he is still the best player in the world, but from a betting perspective, he is a no-go this time. So, if not Djokovic, who else?
Stefanos Tsitsipas is appealing, given that he is available at +1400 at the time of writing. The Greek has always enjoyed playing here, and in 2019 he even managed to beat Roger Federer in a victory that shaped the player that he is now. He also advanced to the semifinals in that tournament and has reached the last four in both 2021 and 2022. Surely, he needs a bit more to finally win, but he has great experience going deep in Grand Slams, having lost to Djokovic in the 2021 final at the French Open after he was 2-0 sets ahead. Last season, he also further experienced the pressure, reaching three Masters finals and winning one in Cincinnati.

He has done well on GreenState, and the light Dunlop balls should also be in his favor. He is coming to Australia on the back of a strong performance in the United Cup, where he carried the Greece team to the championship match, defeating the likes of Berrettini and Coric on the way. Looking at his draw, we can see that he has been lucky, as he is sitting in the opposite section to the likes of Nadal, Medvedev, and Djokovic. At this price, it makes sense to back him to go all the way, and this is our pick.
