The Blue Jays keep their road venture alive as they shift to South Beach to challenge the Marlins. Things haven’t been exactly smooth for Toronto, following three consecutive series losses. The Marlins, however, have been on a hot streak for the past few weeks, even sweeping the Nationals in their last encounter. Nonetheless, I believe the outcome of this game rests largely on whether you have faith in Jose Berrios.

Berrios has been an unpredictable factor for many bettors over time. He’s been inconsistent and usually falters when you start placing trust in him, with performances falling short. But where does he stand now? Interestingly, he has successfully delivered eight consecutive remarkable starts, leading the Jays to victories in seven of those games. If he stays in form, the Marlins might not pose much of a threat. Approximately one-third of their anticipated starting lineup is on the injured list, and beyond Luis Arraez and Jorge Soler, there isn’t much cause for concern. The Marlins plan to start with Bryan Hoeing, a bullpen arm. It appears like a bullpen game for the Marlins, which might not be the best strategy against Toronto’s powerful offense. I’m going to take a gamble and back Berrios to maintain his performance, hence my money line bet.

The Marlins plan to field Bryan Hoeing against the Blue Jays. Hoeing, in the last month, has pitched to 44 batters, allowing right-handed hitters an ISO of .222 and a wOBA of .372. In the past 30 days, his strikeout rate for righties has been under 20%, with line drives accounting for 27.3% and hard contact reaching 50%.

In contrast, the Blue Jays’ anticipated lineup has collectively achieved a .224 ISO and a wOBA of .352 against right-handed pitchers. Bo Bichette has registered a .192 ISO and wOBA of .350 against his last 104 right-handed opponents. His strikeout rate during those at-bats stands at 19.2%. Whit Merrifield also has a commendable .378 wOBA and a low 12.2% strikeout rate against right-handed pitchers in the past month.

Lastly, George Springer has clocked a .267 ISO and a wOBA of .428 against his last 99 right-handed rivals. His strikeout rate during this period has been a modest 14.1%.

All three of these Blue Jays hitters are right-handed with low strikeout rates and high wOBA figures. They should deliver the goods against Hoeing tonight.
