What exactly are teaser parlays?

Many sports spectators who do not bet are familiar with “the line,” or the market price for a sporting event. However, one line gives a misleading impression of how betting markets work. The lines are flowing and spreading as they get closer to the closing number. Additionally, a bettor may buy (or sell) points directly from the book. One way to achieve this is via teaser bets.

In a teaser, volume is exchanged for points. In exchange for a certain number of points, the bettor has to create parlay bets that have at least two selections. Normally, in teaser bets, the bettor gets six points for every NFL game. In return, players have to crease parlays with at least two selections, which statistically increases the chances for the sportsbook to prevail. Similar to a parlay bet, a teaser bet’s payoff depends on the outcome of each leg. Teasers often involve two teams, although some bookies let you place up to 10 bets on a single teaser.

Is it worthwhile to place teaser bets?

The typical answer to most questions about betting is, “It depends.”
Typically, teasers are not a good option for the bettor. Similar to parlays, grouping many bets into one wager that must win all of them simply increases the possibility that the bookmaker will pocket your money.

A “Wong” teaser, named after betting author Stanford Wong, is a specific type of two-team teaser that could lead to bets with positive expectation (+EV). They are only allowed in the NFL. Because of the competitive setting of NFL games and the markets’ sharpness, buying points are worth more in comparison to, say, college football. Market confidence in colleges is substantially weaker. Therefore, purchasing numbers have little utility.
