Week 9 of the NFL season started on Thursday night, but we have a full slate of NFL action Sunday, and the first game we’ll look at is the Minnesota Vikings traveling to take on the Washington Commanders. Minnesota comes into the with a 6-1 record and on a 5-game winning streak. Washington got off to a slow start this season at 1-4 but has won three games in a row to reach 4-4.

The Vikings seemingly have a stranglehold on the NFC North Division right now, with a 3.5-game lead over the Packers, while Washington is in last place in the highly competitive NFC East Division. Minnesota is still flying a little under the radar despite their 6-1 record, mainly because they only have one win over a team with a winning record, Miami, and they didn’t have their starting QB that game.

Overall we think the Vikings are a solid team with weapons on offense and a bend but don’t break defense, which has been creating turnovers lately. Minnesota is playing well right now, and we think that continues; we’ll take Minnesota to win and cover the -3 point spread.

Tip Reasoning

Key Stat: Minnesota is averaging 24 points per game

  • The Vikings traded for tight-end target T.J. Hockenson
  • Washington gives up 21 points per game on defense
  • Minnesota gives up 20 points per game on defense

The next line for the Vikings-Commanders game is the Over/Under of 43.5 points for the game. Minnesota definitely has the more potent offense compared to Washington. The Vikings have Jefferson, Thielen, Cook, and now talented tight-end T.J. Hockenson, who they traded for with the Lions earlier this week. They face an average Commanders defense that looks like it gets their talented defensive end, Chase Young, back from injury this week. Minnesota should be able to score enough points, and while their defense is getting better, they still give up over 20 points per game. Washington should be able to score late to push the line Over 43.5 points.
