We are wrapping up week 8 of the NFL season, but before that happens we have one more game to look at the odds. Monday Night Football returns to the state of Ohio as the Cincinnati Bengals visit the Cleveland Browns in a matchup of AFC North teams. The Browns look like they’re reverting back to the franchise that we’ve known for so long, as they’ve lost four games in a row and are 2-5 on the season. Cincinnati on the other hand got off to a slow start but has won 4 out of 5 games and is second in the AFC North.

The Bengals have some injury concerns as star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is out with an injury for tonight’s game. Joe Burrow got off to a sluggish start to the season, which is probably a result of not playing or practicing much in the preseason because of off-season abdomen surgery. Both teams are averaging 24 points per game on offense, but it’s the defensive side of the ball where these teams differ. The Bengals are giving up 18.9 points per game, while the Browns defense is giving up 26.6 points per game. Cincinnati should be able to move the ball and score numerous times, even without Ja’Marr Chase. We’ll take the Bengals to win and cover the -3 point spread.

Tip Reasoning

Key Stat: The Bengals defense is only giving up 18 points per game

  • Ja’Marr Chase, the Bengals top receiver, won’t play Monday night because of injury
  • Cincinnati is only averaging 87 yards rushing per game
  • Cleveland is averaging 163 rushing yards per game

Our next line to look at is the Over/Under of 45 points for the Bengals-Browns game. Both teams have pretty capable offenses, as they’re averaging 24 points a game each. While the Bengals get most of their yardage through the air, the Browns are an old-school rushing attack that gets most of their offense on the ground. Ja’Marr Chase being gone for Cincinnati will take away Burrow’s number-one option, so the passing game may not be as dangerous as usual. The Browns love to run the ball and even if that hasn’t meant a winning record, their best players are Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt at running back. Cleveland will try to run the ball and keep the clock moving to shorten the game and keep their defense off the field. We think it’ll be a quick game and lower scoring than most people think. We’ll take Under 45 points for the Monday Night game.
