Atlanta Falcons 2022 Season Predictions

Key Stat: The Atlanta Falcons went 7-10 in 2021

Tip Reasoning

  • Falcons traded longtime franchise quarterback Matt Ryan
  • Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder will battle for starting QB position
  • Head Coach Arthur Smith enters his second year as Atlanta head coach

The Atlanta Falcons have gone through a lot of change in the last year. They got a brand new coach in 2021 in Arthur Smith, in the span of a year they lost Julio Jones, Russell Gage, and Calvin Ridley is suspended for the entire upcoming 2022 year. Perhaps their biggest change was in March, when they traded their franchise quarterback Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts, ending an era and moving on to the future. The 2021 season was a pleasant surprise as they did win 7 games, but what should we expect for the 2022 Atlanta Falcons?

It’s safe to say the betting public is not buying Atlanta to be anything more than one of the worst teams in the league. The Over/Under for wins this year ranges from 4.5 to 5.5 wins. They will have to find a quarterback for the upcoming season and that will be a battle between veteran Marcus Mariota and rookie Desmond Ridder, who was drafted from Cincinnati in the third round. In terms of yards per game, the Falcons were a bottom ten team in both offense and defense in 2021. This will have to change if they are to match their win total from last year. Atlanta will also have to contend with their divisional counterparts, with Tampa Bay being the best team and New Orleans expecting to be better than last year.

The Falcons will start the season by playing 4 playoff teams from 2021 in their first seven games, so it will be challenging for them to get off to a good start. Atlanta will be relying on unreliability at quarterback and wide receiver to try and score points, which could prove difficult this year. We think the Falcons do have some talent coming in, and although we are not expecting a very good season, we are taking the Over 4.5 wins for 2022, predicting a 5-12 season.

Tip Reasoning

Key Stat: Average win line for Falcons 2022 season is 5 wins

  • Falcons end season with four potential playoff teams in 2022
  • Inside linebacker Deion Jones already has been put on PUP list
  • Bryan Edwards had only 34 catches last season, will be a Falcons top target

Our second future bet we will look at for the Atlanta Falcons is probably your best bet for this team. We don’t see this team being a sleeper pick to make the playoffs, so the only realistic pick with decent odds would be Atlanta having the worst regular season record for 2022. When looking at the first seven games of the season and the last four games, it’s easy to see Atlanta getting off to a slow start and facing several teams fighting for their playoff lives or positioning to end the season.

Outside of an older Cordarelle Patterson, the Falcons will be relying on a lot of young or unproven players to put up big offensive numbers. If Atlanta struggles to get three wins in their first 8 games, they could lose morale and fall apart in the second half of the season. The odds are +400 for Atlanta to have the worst regular season record, which is actually the second best odds in the league, so this will be a solid bet to take a look at for a futures bet.
