New Orleans Saints 2022 Predictions
Key Stat: New Orleans ended the 2021 season 9-8
- Saints started the 2021 season 5-2 but missed the playoffs
- Starting quarterback Jameis Winston is recovering from an acl tear
- Michael Thomas returns from ankle surgery after missing all of 2021
The New Orleans Saints come into the 2022 season with one theme for the year-Stay Healthy. There weren’t many teams that got hit by the injury bug more than the New Orleans Saints last year. New Orleans missed their biggest playmaker and best wide receiver for all of 2021 in Michael Thomas. He should be back from ankle surgery, but he missed all of spring camps, so how ready he’ll be is the question. Starting Quarterback, Jameis Winston went down with an ACL tear early in the 2021 season, so they’ll be keeping a close eye on him as he returns back to full health. It is unclear if Winston will be ready for the start of the season, so the Saints signed veteran Andy Dalton as a backup plan. The Saints offense also drafted big play receiver Chris Olave out of Ohio State with their first-round pick.
On the other side of the ball, New Orleans lost a couple of key players in Marcus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins. New Orleans tried to make up for the losses by signing free agent Tyrann Mathieu. The defense in New Orleans has been a consistent top ten unit in the NFL the last five years, so keeping that side of the ball effective is a must for a successful season. The Over/Under is 8.5 wins for the Saints 2022 season, and we are going with the favored under 8.5 wins because of the unknown health of the offense and key losses on defense. We are predicting an 8-9 Saints season in 2022.
Key Stat: Chris Olave was the best receiver in college football last year
- Michael Thomas missing all of last year, may make him less reliable in 2022
- Andy Dalton should be a respectable alternative if Jameis Winston can’t start the season
- Olave should get plenty of deep targets in 2022.
Our second futures bet for the Saints 2022 season is a bit of a long shot, but a realistic long shot that has great value. Chris Olave to win offensive rookie of the year is a bet you can get odds as high as +1200 right now. Olave will be the source of a lot of targets for the New Orleans passing game this season. There are variables out there, such as when Jameis Winston will be available and how many targets Michael Thomas coming back will receive. Even with Thomas coming back healthy and Kamara being used in the backfield, that may open up 1 on 1’s for Olave on the outside. If Jameis Winston can get healthy and on the field as soon as possible, his strong arm could be a perfect match down the field to Olave. As we said before, this is a long shot, but a very realistic long shot that can win you more than 10 times your money.
