Tampa Bay Buccaneers Predictions
Key Stat: Tampa Bay looks to repeat as NFC South champs
- The Bucs benefit from Tom Brady returning
- Bucs head coach Bruce Arians retired, so assistant coach Todd Bowles became head coach
- Future Hall of Fame tight end Rob Gronkowski retired and won’t be back on the team
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a successful season for most teams. The Bucs went 13-4, won the NFC South, and got to the divisional round of the playoffs, before losing to the eventual Super Bowl champ L.A. Rams. However, when you have the greatest quarterback ever in his mid-forties, you know you have to take advantage of every season. That may be part of the reason Bruce Arians decided to step down unexpectedly. Going into the 2022 season, the Bucs should again be the favorites to win the division and be on the short list of Super Bowl contenders.
Late last season the Buc’s biggest issue was playmakers. They lost Chris Godwin to injury late in the year and Antonio Brown quit on the team halfway through a game, leaving their wide receiver group very hamstrung. Re-signing Chris Godwin, who was set to be a free agent, will help team up with Mike Evans to give their offense more versatility. They also signed a former teammate of Brady on the offensive line in Shaq Mason at right guard to shore up O-Line problems.
The Buccaneers will be a favorite to reach the Super Bowl in a somewhat weak NFC. Not having to go through the gauntlet that is the AFC should give Tampa Bay a decent shot to be a top seed. Tampa Bay shouldn’t have much of a problem within their division, the NFC South may be the weakest division in the NFL. However, they will have a tough schedule with Kansas City, Cincinnati, and the LA Rams all meeting the Bucs during the season. Even with those three tough games, we think the Over/Under of 11.5 games is very reachable for Tampa Bay. We are predicting a 12-5 season and Over 11.5 wins for the Bucs.
Key Stat: Tampa Bays defense was 13th last season
- Tampa Bays offense was in top 5 last season
- Leonard Fournette returns as one of the running backs
- Kyle Rudolph signed as a veteran tight end replacement
When looking at the second future bet for the Bucs, we needed to find some value to match realistic expectations. Making the playoffs didn’t give us much value; however, being the last undefeated team is probably not realistic, given their schedule. We think we found the perfect futures bet in the Bucs grabbing the #1 seed in the NFC. This has as much to do with all the other NFC teams as it does Tampa Bay.
The Bucs biggest challenger is usually the Packers, but without Davante Adams, will they be able to replicate that offensive firepower? The defending super bowl champ LA Rams play in a much tougher division than Tampa Bay, so that will hand them more losses. The NFC East doesn’t have any team with enough talent and consistency to be the #1 seed. This leaves us with Tampa Bay, playing in a run-down NFC South, still having plenty of playmakers, to run up their record. We think the Buc’s offense may not be top 5 next season, but their defense should rebound and be a top 10 defense, which will even out the strengths and weaknesses. The Bucs being the #1 seed in the NFC has some great value, some as high as +300! Being able to bet on Tom Brady and win three times our money is a no-brainer for us. We pick the Bucs to grab the #1 spot in the NFC playoffs for our second futures bet!
